Mental Health Mile

Mental Health Mile

Virtue Health Services provide bespoke, person-centred care, within custom-renovated homes. Purposely created to enable individuals living with complex needs to have a more independent lifestyle, the new Community Pathways will provide care to those living with severe mental health, learning disabilities and more.

At the heart of the local community, the team at Virtue Health Services recently took part in the local Mental Health Mile March – a local event, encouraging everyone to walk, wheel and talk for one mile.

Well-being and support

Mental health well-being is becoming a topic which is being discussed more and more – with it now being okay to admit you may be suffering in one way or another. Jogging, walking, talking and being outdoors has been proven to increase self-esteem, sleep better and feel less anxious.

In some cases, people living with more heightened mental health needs may require advanced care – such as a supported living home

Set to officially open on March 11, Ashdale House is the first Community Pathway in a new Phase of three Community Pathway’s, designed to provide care for two-people living with such needs; whilst maintaining as much independence as possible and developing more skills.

Scott Snowden, Director at Virtue Health Services, says: “Ashdale House has been created so individuals can receive the care they require, without having to live within a care setting.

We’ll provide the care and support required – such as medication administration, personal hygiene and much more, medication administration, personal hygiene and much more, while encouraging new skills such as gardening, cooking and maintaining a home and being part of the local community.”

Caring for mental health

Not only will Virtue provide care to those living with complex needs, such as mental health, the team also look to raise awareness as much as possible.

Karen Stanley, Head of Commissioning and Development, said: “We do want to be as close to the community as possible and support in local causes which will make a difference to the lives of our guests, and others who feels they need a little more support.”

The Mental Health Mile took place at the local park, and was attended by a few hundred people.

“It was a great sense of community spirit; hopefully this is something we can continue doing with our guests in the future,” Karen commented.

At Virtue Health Services we equip individuals with the confidence and skills to develop an identity within their community, make their own decisions and live the best version of their life. With a focus on rehabilitation into a more independent life, we still provide the much required care and support. So, even if individuals cannot live without some form of care and support, they are still more independent than they perhaps thought achievable.

Our dedicated teams work with individuals and families to develop goals and support them to maintain and develop their skills, transitioning along a pathway towards independence. Make a referral today.
